Draugen has some interesting character showcases but fails to meet the mark of inserting those characters into a tangible and properly satisfying sequence of events. Is it worth it on sale? i think so, but only then, honestly. I can't shake the feeling they sacrificed a reasonable amount of the main story plot to introduce this seemingly fruitless subplot. By all accounts, Edward is someone who hallucinates over PTSD, and having the game spring this out of seemingly nowhere is a bit cheap in my view. She never solves any puzzle nor really interacts with the world much, but she does tell you to take your medication etc. Major spoilers ahead now, but the game has Edward envision a talking angel statue throughout a single scene in the game.

I did not enjoy the characters ultimately, not due to the VAs or anything, but because of the plot. Sure, a town devoid of life is certainly mysterious, but it also makes for situations where if you're finding it hard to warm to the characters, these will be the only ones present in the game. There are only 2/3 people that have dialogue in the whole game.

Granted, reviewing this as a movie I would be overall positive, but then to me that does damage the review of Draguen from a gameplay perspective. However, that is where my praise for the game ends. The scenery is nice and the musical score is enjoyable so when you are walking and confronted with moments of confusion, dread and respite, you feel immersed enough to not mind. I was expecting some puzzle solving as the game leads itself to a mystery game, but there really isn't anything for you to solve in the entire game. The gameplay is sort of a walking simulator, where you look for clues here and there. The performances are pretty good from the VAs, they definitely feel like immersive characters all things considered. That much isn't so clear as the dynamic between the playful and cheery Alice and the rational, if at times stubborn Edward. Accompanying him is his.assisstant? Colleague? Friend? Hallucination?. You play as a man called Edward, an American, who finds himself in the town of Grovic to look for his sister. This game is really deserving of a "Neutral" review, but I am going to leave it more positive overall when on sale.
